. Avanto - Helsinki Media Art Festival 6.-11/.11/2001. Avanto 2001, the second annual Helsinki Media Art Festival, presents an eclectic, undogmatic mix of experimental music and moving image. Despite the variety of artists, many share a common critical attitude towards the prescribed uses of digital technologies in the best traditions of radical media art. From the minimal sounds of the onkyo school to the recontextualization of mainstream visual culture, Avanto once again offers hardcore experimentalism combined with liberating laughter and arctic madness.
