For the last
three years as a basic element of his work Eftichis Patsourakis has been using
the logos of multinational corporations. By striping them of colour and through
repetition, reflection and recombination he turns them into rhythmic motifs
in prints, drawings, and installations.
Under certain interesting historic periods every logo reinvents itself in
a unique alternative variation to its previous model (See for example the
recent variations and evolution of the BP and Adidas logos). What Patsourakis
does is subverts the function of such variations and proposes a modular perspective
based upon the austere geometry and emblematic function of the logo itself.
With the expansion of corporate business in a global market logos become a
common reference which resembles the pattern of a consumer's sharing experience.
Eftihis Patsourakis' works are dealing with this possibility of abstraction:
an aesthetic matrix in an unpredictable rhizome-like pattern.
Creating new structures and patterns which submerge, reinflect and reinvent
their components, his pieces comment on our virtual corporate urban environment,
the position of the work of art, the creator and the viewer, and further on
the way the appreciation of art and life can be manipulated in an increasingly
corporate world.
