INFORMATION Horse Collection
It started with a letter
of invitation to contribute. A residency in China that happened to coincide with the New Year of the Horse was a starting point for this project. The theme chose the work. What was it about 'The horse' that everyone was celebrating? what does the horse represent, and how has it's meaning and function changed? it's links to myth and superstition, a symbol of cultural history a throwaway tourist souvenir. Can it expose a reading of attitude, a road through language and cultures? The horse brings promises of the future. What could that future be? Starting Horse Collection initiated an open ended conversation and structure to generate intimate and personal accounts of the subject. .After China, Horse Collection went on tour for one year. Gathering 'portable' contributions as It was transported to London, Southampton, Rotterdam and back to London. A return trip to china is being planned. Horse Collection consists a wide range of portable objects, stories, poetry, film clips, paintings, sketches, photographs and proposals. As the collection grows various themes emerge; creating a kind of encyclopedia built from personal association .Horse Collection provides History, games, arts and crafts, geneology, work and leisure, memorobilia, economics, travel, poetry, music, songs, memory, archeology...The aim of Horse Collection is that it will not become a static preservation of the objects it contains. More an open source for cross referencing, juxtapostion and free association. Material to trigger live activities, events and research. Horse Collection on tour.
